Small kitchen

Few common designs and things you would see in a small kitchen:
- Cabinets- quite a few cabinets both base unit and wall unit, and these cabinets will use all the available spaces- build upward.
- Almost every single cabinet will have a ‘pull out’ design to maximize the storage.
- Accessories/ tools- drawer would have cutlery tray; counter top will knife holder; rails on wall for bottle/ sauce rack or hook would be applied on wall where without a cabinet.
- Built in- oven, fridge, washing machine and/ or even bin.
Design does not have to be complicated for small kitchen, you do not have to use up all the spare space, simple design which meets the household needs will be a better option. When considering building an extra cabinet or having some accessories, think twice- is this what you need or this is just what you want.

Another common thing about a small kitchen will be the shape of it- square or regular.
Most designers will turn the kitchen into U shape by using both or 3 sides as worktop where with build-in oven, base units, hob, sink and wall units above the worktop; leaving the middle as a hallway. The type of design is very common and has it advantages:
- Householder doesn’t have to walk around to get the cooking materials as they are all around you and inside the cabinets.
- Having both wall units and base units along with built-in appliances by both sides (or all sides) of your kitchen, there should be more than enough space for storage.
- The more the storage, the less chance items would be place onto the worktop- neat and tidy and easy cleaning.
If you have this U shape or upside-down U shape kitchen, you could build an imbalance work top- one side bigger than the opposite side. You could have the built-in appliances underneath the bigger size of the work top; and a set of smaller cabinets and drawers on the opposite size, this design allows you to have a wider space and enable you to have enough storage.
