Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year) is an important Chinese festival in Asia. There are many ways to celebrate Chinese New Year yet 90% will decorate the home in RED. It is just like celebrating Christmas.

Red and golden are the most used and popular colours for Chinese New Year decoration. Peach tree, mandarin and orchid are often seen during Chinese New Year. If you want to go to the modern way, you might just buy your favour plant and to decorate it with some red packet envelopes, New Year antithetical couplets and lanterns to light up the Chinese New Year atmosphere.

When visiting relatives and friends, elder people and/ or married couple will give red packer money (also called Lai See) to unmarried younger. In addition, gift exchange between families and friends is also a traditional customs. Common gifts are cookies, candies or chocolate (something sweet). You will often see a Candy box where contains dried melon seeds, dried fruits and sweets.

To be environment-friendly, red packet envelopes can be reused again on other special event and festival or even for upcoming Chinese New Year to reduce wastes.

You might also reuse and DIY the red packet envelopers into decorations.
